In 2004 we met Michael and Susan Klopka who had lovingly planted a small Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard near the top of Diamond Mountain in the northern end of Napa Valley. One look at the porous, red volcanic soils, and the exposure to the cool afternoon breezes coming all the way from Lake Sonoma, we were convinced that this had the makings of an outstanding Cabernet vineyard. The northwest hillside exposure provides plenty of hang‐time, and the long, sunny days slowly ripen the grapes to perfection.
The first year the vineyard produced wine was 2004 and each year we have seen very dark and rich wines, with intense black cherry and black olive aromas and layers of velvety currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit in the mouth. Stunning and remarkably elegant, they exhibit a dense core of fleshy, black fruit. These wines are immaculately balanced that finish long and complex with firm, integrated tannins.
